This photo tour explores the beautiful rolling hills in Tuscany along with the magical famous Cinque Terre area where there are some of the most picturesque villages in the world. If you love fairytale landscapes then this workshop is the one for you! In between shooting we’ll drink the famous Italian wine, enjoy the best Italian gelato and of course eat the delicious seafood in Cinque Terre. We’ll often wake up early to try to catch the best light, especially in the Tuscany hills area where every sunrise is amazing. During this workshop you’ll learn how to compose, capture and process landscapes with Marco Grassi and Albert Dros. With a semi flexible schedule we’ll bring you to the right places at the right times.
Saturday 5 May:
Pick up in the afternoon at Florence central station or airport. We’ll drive to our accommodation from there. We will stop a few times on the road to soak in the beautiful hills of Tuscany. Arrival at our hotel will be late afternoon where we will do a quick check in and head out for our first sunset shoot at the famous Cyprus Trees. After that we’ll have our dinner and rest.
Sunday 6 May:
The Tuscany light is best in the early morning and evening. During our tour we will try to shoot the sunrise as much as possible. Today we will visit a well known location with a beautiful house in the middle of the hills. After sunrise we have a few hours of well needed rest. For the not-tired people there will be plenty of interesting things to see around the hotel, or just head for a quick swim in the pool. We’ll meet again during lunch and explore some nice locations in the area. Tuscany is full of beautiful little picturesque villages, one of those being Pienza where we’ll scout around. After that we’ll be heading to our sunset spot. There are multiple nice spots in the area and we’ll discuss where to go depending on the weather and conditions.
Monday 7 May:
We’ll of course have our regular sunrise shoot at a location nearby. This time we will shoot from a higher point looking the valley below. There are countless of shooting opportunities here so make sure you bring all of your lenses, from wide-angle to tele and even macro. After sunrise we’ll meet again at lunch and head out to Siena, one of the most beautiful and famous towns in the area. We might do some stops on the way depending on time and weather conditions. After having explored Siena we’ll
shoot sunset near the town. Again, there are multiple great sunset spots near Siena and we’ll discuss which one to go to depending on weather and conditions.
Tuesday 8 May:
Today we have an optional sunrise shoot. For the people that want to rest, go ahead! But when the light is right, we need to shoot! We’ll shoot around our hotel again for sunrise, depending on the conditions we will choose between the famous chapel or another place nearby. Day 4 will be a long day as we will head to our next destination: Cinque Terre. We’ll check out at our hotel and drive to La Spezia for lunch. We’ll have a bit of rest in the afternoon and then get ready for our sunset shoot. Today’s sunset shoot will be in one of the most beautiful villages in the world: Manarola. We’ll also have dinner here.
Wednesday 9 May:
On this day we will explore Rio Maggiore and Vernazza, two of the other extremely beautiful villages on the Italian west coast. Both villages have multiple vantage points to shoot from. Make sure you bring ND filters and Polarizers, they’re a must when shooting here! We’ll shoot the sunset in Vernazza from a beautiful high vantage point overlooking the village. Dinner will be in Vernazza.
Thursday 10 May:
Today we have something exclusive: we have a private boat at our disposal where we can relax, have a drink and have some food. We will stop at multiple locations to shoot. Because we have a boat and zodiac it will be possible to visit remote beaches that are not accessible by foot. We’ll take a few stops and just enjoy the breeze on the boat in between. At the end of the day we’ll leave the boat at Portovenere, a beautiful village on the south of Cinque Terre. We’ll have dinner and shoot sunset here.
Friday 11 May:
Today we’ll visit Lerici and Tellaro, hidden gems not too far from the Cinque Terre area. Lerici is a coastal town with a beautiful fortress and lots of tiny little boats that offer beautiful views. Walking along the waterfront with some delicious gelato in your hand really gives you that great Italian holiday feeling. There are also not that much tourists here. Tellaro is even more authentic, with its marvelous church almost on the water. Walking around here is extremely peaceful because there’s usually no
one around, except for the locals who are always happy to have a chat. We’ll shoot sunset in Tellaro and head back to our hotel.
Saturday 12 May:
Time went fast and it’s unfortunately already time to leave beautiful Italy with tons of great photos on our memory cards. We’ll check out from our hotel and drive back to Florence airport / central station. We’ll drop you off here for your flights back home.
NOTE:
There will be time for critique and post-processing sessions during ‘rest moments’ and even some
times on the road.
